Bryan Mettraux has been on the water since he was one year old and has been regularly sailing ever since. Although Bryan has been a part of Alinghi since 2019, he first became known to the team at the age of 14 when he was invited on board the D35 to follow a training session.
Bryan loved being on the water, but was also interested in technical drawings and architecture and turned to an apprenticeship as a shipbuilder at Philippe Durr's shipyard. In parallel, he earned his spurs in preparing boats at the Centre d'Entraînement à la Régate (CER).
What followed were successful seasons as bowman and sail trimmer for the Realteam and Tilt teams. Bryan won two Swiss Match Racing Championship titles, two wins at the D35 Trophy (2012 and 2015), a victory in the amateur ranking on the Tour de France à la voile (2012) and many more. Bryan has also been crowned the GC32 World Champion in both 2018 and 2019.
When asked about his preferred position on board, he replied that if he could choose, he would do: “A different job every day!”
Bryan has been lucky enough to sail with his brother and sisters professionally and says it’s one of his favourite things to have done, and away from working, he enjoys sports in general and astrophysics.
