Conditions varied throughout the event ranging from a Mistral on Friday to a more moderate breeze on Saturday. Early Sunday, conditions were around 25 knots, but dropped to 15 in the afternoon for Alinghi to claim three consecutive firsts, a third, and two fourths.
Quotes from Hyères: Ed Baird, helmsman, comments on a good learning weekend and takes a look forward to Cowes, the next iShares Cup venue:“This weekend has been great for us. We are happy to win and have for sure learned a lot at every turn, in every race, in different conditions and this is really important for our learning process for the next America’s Cup. I want to thank the crew too for the fabulous job they did.
“We did much better here in Hyères than in Lugano, but the next venue in Cowes, England, will be a different place with different conditions, more current, more traffic. It will be another story and another chance to learn more.”
