Live from Lugano: Alinghi X40 capsized. All crew safe.

Lugano, CH (30 May 2008, 14:40): During race 1 in Lugano, a squall hit the race course and the Alinghi X40 capsized. All crew members are safe and the boat is currently being recovered.

iShares Cup, Lugano: Race day 1

Alinghi has left the dock to do some sailing in preparation for the first day of the iShares Cup in Lugano, Switzerland. The first race is due for 13:45. There has been a crew change due to injury with Craig Satterthwaite replacing Rodney Ardern on the mainsail.

The X40 crew is:

Ed Baird, helmsman
Craig Satterthwaite, mainsail trimmer
Lorenzo Mazza, trimmer
Piet van Nieuwenhuyzen, bowman
Peter Evans, 5th man

Alinghi should be very proud, the result does not reflect the true winner, the whole Alinghi team are a credit to the sport. So the 'playground bully' won,their actions in the run up, sadly rob them of any respect. I truely hope to see you guy's racing for the 100 guinea cup again! and winning it!!
